LSSO appoints Bradley Wilson as inaugural conductor in residence

The appointment follows a public commitment made by Guildhall Young Artists and Black Lives in Music to provide representation and nurture diverse talent within the orchestra.

Bradley Wilson has been appointed as the first conductor in residence for the London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO), following an open call from Guildhall Young Artists and Black Lives in Music

An advocate for diversity in the music industry, Wilson is an instrumentalist and conductor currently in his final year at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire studying for a bachelor's degree in music with performance.

The role of conductor in residence at LSSO will include attending audition panels, leading sectional rehearsals and conducting the orchestra in concert. 

On the new appointment, Bradley Wilson says: ‘I am incredibly thankful to Black Lives in Music and Guildhall Young Artists for this opportunity to be the first conductor in residence with the London Schools Symphony Orchestra

‘It is an exciting moment to be part of this orchestra so dedicated to championing diversity and inclusion, and I look forward to working with them over the next year.’

As a trumpet player, Wilson has performed with Chineke! Orchestra, served as music director for The Rusty Players, been a conductor for the People’s Orchestra, and assumed the role of ambassador for Black Lives in Music and consultant for the Centre of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Arts with Birmingham City University. 

Roger Wilson, director of operations at Black Lives in Music says: ‘I commend Bradley for his talent, enthusiasm and passion that he brings to this role, and am wholeheartedly looking forward to watching him develop as a conductor over the next year.

‘We are pleased to continue to work alongside Guildhall Young Artists as this scheme progresses over the next year, and to work with Bradley as he continues to be an ambassador for Black Lives in Music.’
