The new BMus Piano for Theatre course will begin in September 2025 at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London.

Accredited by the University of East Anglia, the three-year course is aimed at aspiring theatre pianists and will give vocational training in musical theatre and commercial piano. Included in the course are piano technique, musicianship, arranging and conducting; there will also be professional levels of performance experience through show roles and regular collaboration with Mountview’s Musical Theatre students.

Tony Award-winning music director and orchestrator Sarah Travis said: ‘In the musical theatre industry, it has never been more important to be multi-skilled and flexible in what you can offer. The central piece of this jigsaw is always the piano… This course will equip students to come out well prepared for anything.’

Mountview’s principal, Sally Ann Gritton, said: We are proud that Mountview is once again spearheading innovation in its training portfolio with the addition of a Bachelor of Music qualification. Our BMus Piano for Theatre will provide a rigorous, vocational opportunity for students to develop their piano skills to a professional level to enter the wide range of roles available to them in the theatre. We are committed to developing music skills in an educational landscape that has forgotten to prioritise them.’

Applications for September 2025 are now open. More information is available at mountview.org.uk
