Establish a clear line of communication When you take on a new student, it's essential to get off on the right foot: introduce yourself to parents or carers, either through a phone call or email. It's best to avoid using a personal email account: use a school email, or have a dedicated work email address. When teaching private students, you normally see parents face to face, but when teaching through a school or music service, there's often little or no direct contact, so it's good to make the effort.
