Sound and Music have opened applications for their unique In the Making 2025 young artist development programme and are calling all young music-makers to apply.
Sound and Music have announced that the application window for In the Making 2025, the organisation’s unique and inclusive young artist development programme, is now open until Sunday 13th April 2025.
They are calling all music teachers and those working in talent development to share the opportunity to help them reach every talented young music-maker across the UK.
In the Making is the UK’s only year-long artist development programme for young music creators and composers aged 14–18 and builds on Sound and Music’s 15 years of experience delivering transformational summer school programmes. In the context of Youth Music’s new campaign highlighting the worrying decline of youth music opportunities, In the Making is an exceptional UK-wide offer open to all regardless of instrument, interest, background, financial circumstance or location.
The programme brings together 50 young music creators from across the UK for a week-long residential at the University of Huddersfield where they will create, record and perform their own original new music and access a wealth of workshops, learning sessions and career development. They are guided by top composers, industry professionals and tutors throughout the week and then during their subsequent 12-month journey, transforming their composing and performing skills while building their confidence, experience, and creative ambition.
Eva, one of the current cohort, reflected on the impact of In the Making:
'The entire experience of In the Making has been just amazing and really exceeded expectations. I now feel like I have a clear future in music and know what steps to take. In the Making has given me the ambition to make it and I’m really grateful. This has been a great experience and opened a lot of doors.'
Thanks to Sound and Music’s funders and supporters, In the Making is able to be heavily subsidised, with full means-tested bursaries available to ensure cost is never a barrier.
Sound and Music attract music-makers from every corner of the UK, background and area of interest on to their programmes and keen to ensure In the Making 2025 is the most diverse cohort ever.
Eddie Dobson, professional composer and In the Making tutor, reflected:
'This is the most amazing thing I’ve been involved in in my entire career – and probably the best opportunity these young musicians will ever have.'
