For the first time in its history the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is offering postgraduate students the opportunity to specialise in piccolo, cor anglais, Eb clarinet and contrabassoon.
These specialisms will be available as principal study options from September 2022 onwards. Previously these areas were available only to complement study on flute, oboe, clarinet, and bassoon.
Postgraduate students who successfully apply to the course will gain access to group classes and masterclasses with renowned specialists, as well as one-to-one lessons and opportunities within RNCM orchestras and ensembles.
Kevin Gowland, acting head of Wind, Brass and Percussion and director of Woodwind, said: ‘By offering this provision at postgraduate level, the RNCM is providing talented woodwind students with unrivalled opportunities to develop their specialism within a supportive, nurturing and exciting environment. This is a truly unique offer within the conservatoire sector and our school of Wind, Brass and Percussion is very proud to be leading the way.’
