Teachers to win their schools prizes in Copycat Challenge

The challenge aims to inspire teachers to accurately log printed music between 19 and 30 June.

Launching today, the Every Copy Counts campaign from Printed Music Licensing Limited (PMLL) is encouraging teachers across the UK to log their sheet music data with the annual Copycat Challenge.

It is currently reported that only two per cent of schools in the UK are correctly logging the music they are copying, creating a deficit in data and resulting in hundreds of musicians suffering financial loss.

To tackle this, the Every Copy Counts campaign aims to redistribute royalties to music creators and composers by gaining data on what music is used in schools under the terms of the Schools Printed Music Licence (SPML).

The team has simplified the process of logging this data, and also offers a range of free teaching resources on its website.

Teachers who submit their data during the two-week challenge window will be entered into a prize draw.

The prizes include two tickets to the Music Publishers Association christmas lunch (courtesy of the MPA and PMLL), book bundles and gift cards from Hal Leonard, Faber Music and Oxford University Press, a 12-month membership to Sing Up, two Roland RC-202 loop stations and two ukuleles.
